Our Mission

Mission Statement of the Hazardous Materials Association (HMA)

The Hazardous Materials Association of BC (HMA) is dedicated to promoting the safe, responsible, and sustainable management of hazardous materials, including but not limited to asbestos, lead, and other potentially dangerous substances. We strive to be the leading advocate and resource for those involved in all facets of hazardous material handling and disposal.

Education: We commit to raising awareness and enhancing understanding about the risks, regulatory standards, and best practices associated with hazardous materials. By providing comprehensive, timely, and accessible information, we empower all stakeholders to navigate the complexities of hazardous materials with confidence and competence.

Advocacy: We actively lobby for effective legislation and regulations that prioritize public health, worker safety, and environmental stewardship. Our objective is to bridge the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that every individual and organization can manage hazardous materials in a manner that minimizes harm and maximizes safety.

Collaboration: We foster a collaborative community where experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and citizens can come together to exchange ideas, share experiences, and build solutions. Through partnerships and alliances, we work towards a safer world, mitigating the risks associated with hazardous materials and facilitating their responsible removal and disposal.

At the HMA, we believe that knowledge is the foundation of safety. Therefore, we endeavor to lead by example, demonstrating commitment, professionalism, and integrity in all our actions. By championing safe practices, influencing policy, and driving innovation in hazardous material management, we are not only serving our members but also contributing to a healthier, safer, and more sustainable world.

Our Commitment to the Hazmat Industry of BC

We stand committed to fostering healthier living and working conditions by promoting the safe management of hazardous materials during renovation and demolition activities.

Our dedication extends to offering thorough training programs to our member contractors and their teams. The goal is to ensure they are not only safe but also equipped with the necessary knowledge and confidence to handle various scenarios.

We proactively collaborate with government agencies and regulatory authorities, pushing for the enhancement of policies and regulations that improve safety on construction sites where hazardous materials may be encountered.

This strategic cooperation serves to strengthen safety precautions on such construction sites, thereby reinforcing our overall objective. We aim to cultivate a safer, more informed community within the construction industry.

The safe handling of hazardous materials isn't just about protecting ourselves, it's also about protecting our future.
